🌐 Working at the intersection of movements, media, and the social web to expand collective agency 🛠️ Seeking collaborations to reshape systems that concentrate power and shape how we live 🧭 Justice-rooted, with field notes and wayfinding at @SpaceCadets.love

Going to be livestreaming a bunch today. Coworking earlier in the day, more office hours and conversations later in the day.

My big overarching task for the day: figuring out all the ways I can ask for help on things I'm working on and supporting others in doing the same.

We're stronger together.
This bill would abolish ICE, DHS, and CBP, transferring legitimate customs duties to other departments. It would sunset Section 219 of the INA close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility and shutter all immigration detention centers.

You have my sword, milady.
Truthout @truthout.org
Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.
@trezy.codes hey! Im working on a project thats almost entirely going to be on permissioned spaces. Im wondering if you'd be down to help me figure it out/set it up? And perhaps on livestream?
We lost our friend @codefrau.bsky.social a year ago so I'm working on stained glass memorial windows to honor her in the new build I'm working on for XR Guild Hall.

We were collaborating on this project for the year before she went back to Germany, and I miss her incredibly, all throughout the year
Some people put together this analysis of my work and Gil Duran's work, with time stamps, themes, history and comparisons.

You can see for yourself.

This is a loss. At the absolute nadir of the COVID-19 pandemic her reporting helped keep me sane. STAT became one of my go-to news sources for honest, factual reporting on the crisis in large measure because of her. A Branswell report, good news or bad, made me sit up and take notice.
Kathleen Bachynski @bachynski.bsky.social
Oh no, I am just heartbroken to see this terrible news. “Helen Branswell, a renowned infectious disease reporter who earned the respect of experts and public health officials around the world… died Tuesday at age 69.

The cause was complications from cancer, said her sister, Brenda Branswell.”

Smart corrective by @annamerlan.bsky.social Drone strikes didn’t take out a Russian bot farm, but we were primed to believe it  www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Just a little teaser for what I’ve been working on.

Who’s into
webtil.es?
Lyre Calliope’s blue haired 16bit era rpg.actor avatar is standing in a 2.5d isometric point of view room with cartoonish wood floors and two web app surfaces embedded in the environment. One is a yellow sticky note facing the reader that says “Welcome board pinned by Space Cadets” while the other is a mini web app todo list app titled “Field Notes” with a text box and a purple add button. It faces the avatar at an angle in world parallel with the wall.
A lot of people have been asking questions about the Yandex data center bombing and Russian bot trolls... and I figured eventually we'd get some more expert analysis...

Sounds like the story wasn't really true:
Kate Starbird @katestarbird.bsky.social
Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.
While this is the rare Dan Sinker essay that could stop at literally half its length, it is worth your time if you haven't had the opportunity to digest it yet.

I’m in DC scheduled to give this talk today. But the organizers flagged slides in my deck that mention racism, structural gaslighting, New Jim Code and other themes that are off limits in the Land of the Free.

People think I'm joking when I say that disinformation threatens democracy and sovereignty, and that this means that kinetic options should be on the table, even if ideally not used.

Russian bot traffic has dropped to nearly 0 after Ukraine struck a Yandex data center in Vladimir, Russia
What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff
Alina Pereverzieva 🇺🇦 @perevaa.bsky.social
And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services.

Twitter must be a ghost town by now.
open source and open data as an ethos is largely anti capital and anti authority and is inherently political in ways we need more of
Eugene Vinitsky 🍒 @eugenevinitsky.bsky.social
My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.
